If you have taught subject and predicate, using the "Sub-Ject and Pretty-Kit" story from the Writing lessons on our webpage (http://www.troupk5resources.com/index.html), you may enjoy this addition.... to teach simple subjects and predicates, teach your students that when Sub-Ject and Pretty-Kit are not wearing all of their accessories, they are plain and simple-- no bling for Sub-Ject, no bows or frills for Pretty Kit. This correlates to the simple subject and predicate in a sentence.... Also if Sub-Ject and Pretty Kit are BEST friends, maybe even boyfriend and girlfriend, when they break up what are they? FRAGMENTS! You could also talk about them having an argument, or not agreeing on something, and then talk about subject-verb agreement.
