Click on the picture to the right to check out Mrs. McClellan, first grade teacher at Cannon Street Elementary, masterfully teaching small group reading. So much went on in the short time that we watched-- vocabulary, concepts of print, schema-building, metacognition instruction, comprehension strategies, celebrations, and phonics instruction...Mrs. McClellan began with a review of the dolch words that each individual student needed. She then quickly reviewed Cupp cards. She introduced the new skill, and then immediately guided her students in applying it in real reading.
